How to Make Your Own Homemade Face Mask

We all need to make a homemade face mask more often. It’s an awesome way to nurture and cleanse your skin, but also an opportunity to sit back and really relax!

The best ingredients for your body are natural and inexpensive! Just like these recipes. A good facial mask removes dead skin cells, cleanses and/or moisturizes your skin. There are different mask recipes for different types of skin and skin problems.

When you use a homemade face mask with fruits and nutritious foods, you feed your skin, making it beautifully radiant and glowing. Your face really doesn’t need all those made up chemicals and preservatives that are in store bought face masks.

You’ll notice some results immediately after using the mask, like clean, soft skin. But if you want to improve your skin you’ll need to do it regularly. Once or twice a week is generally fine, but more often than that can make your skin irritated.

How To Apply A Homemade Face Mask In 6 Easy Steps

Here are my step-by-step instructions on how you can apply a face mask without making a mess.

  1. Clothes
    Don’t wear your best outfit, you might spill some on your clothes, and we don’t want that now do we? 😉

  2. Towel
    Tie a towel around your head to cover your hairline and ears.

  3. Wash
    Wash your face with warm water before you apply your face mask. This will open up your pores for deeper cleansing. An alternative is to heat up some water, pour into a bowl, put your head above the bowel and a towel on top. Just like when you have the flu. Do this for up to 10 minutes, and gently pat your face dry afterwards.

  4. Eyes & Mouth
    The skin around the eyes and mouth tend to be more sensitive than the rest, so avoid those areas.

  5. Apply The Mask
    Some recipes are looser and require you to lie down, while others can be applied standing up. Apply your mask and leave it on for 15 minutes or longer.

  6. Rinse
    Rinse with lukewarm water. Whatever you do, do NOT use soap. After you’ve rinsed, your pores may be swollen or red. This is normal and is just because they are more open. They will close up before tomorrow. You can wash your face with some cool water if you want to make it happen faster.

Soothing Oat & Egg Mask for Most Skin Types

This mask gently cleanses your skin without drying it out. After using this mask I felt very refreshed. It had a soothing effect, leaving my skin smooth and clean.

I have both oily and dry skin, and it worked for both. It isn’t extremely moisturizing, nor extremely cleansing, but it’s really nice and refreshing!

This mask is best to use when you have a friend to help you apply it, because you’ll probably need to lie down so it doesn’t run all over the place. Put a towel under your head and shoulders wherever you choose to lie down.

This recipe will make a thick layer for one person or a normal layer for two. Here’s what you need and how you make it:

  • 1 Raw Egg
  • 1 tsp Cold Pressed Olive Oil
  • ½ cup Oatmeal or Rolled Oats
  • Put the rolled oats in a blender and mix until it’s finely ground.
  • Mix with the egg and the oil in a bowl. Ready to go!

Oats work soothing for irritated skin and is gently moisturizing. Raw eggs have proven to be very good for dry skin, but also for tightening the pores and reducing inflammation. Olive oil is a good fat, and can work wonders on dry skin!
