A facial is a beauty treatment for the face that you can do at home or at a beauty salon. It’s a complete treatment for your face, and it opens up your pores, cleanses, and cleans up your skin. There are many different variations, we’ll go into those in a sec!
Lots of people go to beauty salons to have their facials. Sure it’s nice and relaxing to have someone else care for your skin, but you won’t have much control over what kind of products they use. Unless you find a natural beauty salon, you will get a lot of unhealthy chemicals on your skin
Here’s why I like doing my facials at home:
- It’s easier to find natural products, than a natural beauty salon
- It’s cheap!
- I don’t have to leave home (I’m lazy like that
)
To make it as relaxing as possible, I recommend getting your friends together, and trying different types of facials and homemade beauty masks. Give each other treatments and have fun!
Basic Cleansing Facial
A good basic cleanse will make your skin smooth and moisturized. Normal skin that isn’t prone to any problems may only need a lighter cleanse, followed by some soothing face water and cream. And did you know that if you cleanse normal skin too much it might get oilier. Weird, I know, but that’s how your skin can react.
Deep Cleansing Facial
A deep cleansing is one of the best types of facials for oily and problem prone skin. One example of a deep cleansing facial is a clay mask. Clay absorbs toxins from the skin, leaving it purified and less oily. If you have sensitive skin this is obviously nothing that you should try!
Exfoliating Facial
No matter what skin type you have, exfoliating your facial skin is good to do regularly. It will remove the dull looking skin cells that have accumulated on the surface and afterwards your skin will be smoother and have a healthy glow to it.
An exfoliating facial can be mechanical or chemical. The mechanical ones (aka facial scrub) are when you rub the skin with say a grainy cream or a scrubbing sponge. The chemical ones (aka face peels or chemical peels) are when you cover the skin with a cream containing some sort of acid, which can be natural from raw foods like fruits, or unnatural manmade crap
.
Moisturizing Facial
Most facial treatments end with moisturizing the skin. But if you have dry skin, moisturizing may be the whole purpose of the treatment. A face mask with lots of raw fats might be the way to go.
Facial Massage
Face massage is a way to improve blood circulation, it gives your skin a healthy color and helps against wrinkles. It is good to do before cleansing the skin, as the pores open up when they get warm. Plus it feels so good!
***
There are many more specific types of facials for problems such as wrinkles or acne. Your skin type will decide what type of facial is for you and what isn’t. Remember that your skin type changes over the seasons and years, so change your facial skin care treatments as well.
